Map of the Region
Our expeditions are staffed by experienced local guides and camp and kitchen crew as well as muleteers and assistants drawn from among the nomadic people through whose home regions we travel during this trek. This gives our expeditions the air of a warm homecoming rather than a tourist's casual jaunt.
Born and raised in the Bhutan Himalaya, Karma Dorji began trekking over 25 years ago. He also traveled extensively across the kingdom as part of the official press team for Bhutan’s 7th and 8th Five Year Plans under the stewardship of Bhutan's enlightened fourth king His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, author of Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness (GNH) policy.
Karma has been leading exceptional cultural adventures & trekking expeditions to Bhutan since that time and is the author of Dreaming of Prayer Flags: Stories and Images from Bhutan which was launched at the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival on Bhutan in 2008. Karma has lectured on Bhutan and Bhutanese culture at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. and the San Francisco Asian Art Museum.
